*This year we will be doing things a little differently. We will not have an inter-box competition during the Open. We are 1 Box, 1 Team UNITED for 2018. No pressure for where you place each week all we want is your BEST so you can get the most out of the OPEN and grow as an athlete.

2018 CrossFit Apex Open Schedule


Thursday nights: Following the 7pm group class at 8pm we will stream the Open Announcements each week on the TV at APEX. All are welcome to join in the viewing of the announcement and watching the games athletes going head to head. Following the announcement we will run the Open announced workout for anyone interested in going Thursday or unable to complete their workout on the weekend. Please plan on notifying us prior to Thursday if your plan is to complete the OPEN workout this evening.

Friday AM and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS PM classes: As we have done in the past the current Open announced workout will be posted as Apex's Friday's  class wod. For those unable to complete the Open announced workout Friday we will also program the current Open announced workout as Saturday's class wod. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS will start at 5pm (doors will open earlier to warm up) and run until all Open participants have been scored. (Athletes signed up for the Open MUST have a judge in order to receive a validated score) Anyone not signed up for the Open may still participate in class however you will not need a judge. Plan on a large number of participants for the Open to complete their workouts this evening. We will have a heat schedule that you must sign up for a time slot. Heat times will change each week according to the workout length. **ChildCare will be available from 5-6:30. Therefore if you plan on bringing children you must sign up for a heat within this time period. (Parents that plan on using childcare must register below) Anyone that would still like to workout/mobilize on Friday's may do so with their own programming or testing of the movements for the current Open workout. You will have access to the third side gym (Oly Platform Side). It is recommended that you incorporate programming with some sort of an every minute on the minute, AMRAP or programming that incorporates the skills, movements and loads from this current weeks announced OPEN workout. Please feel free to ask for suggestions or help with any strategies for how to approach the current workout.

Saturday Doors Open at (TBD) Heats will run through until the last athletes finish: SATURDAY MORNING GLORY Anyone that is/was unable to participate Friday am or at Friday Night Lights must must complete their current Open announced workout on Saturday morning. Depending on the Open Announced Wod and the length of the wod we may have to set heat times that will be spaced apart similar to Friday Night Lights. Class will run until all Open participants have been scored. (Athletes signed up for the Open MUST have a judge in order to receive a validated score) Anyone not signed up for the Open may still participate in class however you will not need a judge. Apex Fit Class will also take on the current Open Announced workout with scaling and modifications to specific movements using db's instead of barbells and any other modifications needed. It is ENCOURAGED to come and cheer on your fellow Apex members Saturday morning even if you have already completed your Open Announced workout on Fridays. 

JUNIORS: Juniors will complete their Open Announced Wod at their convenience Friday or Saturday. 

(TBD) Sunday Open Gym 11am or 12pm: This will be a time for someone to make up/redo their Open workout from earlier in the weekend or anyone that was unable to go prior to Sunday can do their first attempt at the current Open announced wod on Sunday's. 

Monday's
AM Class or 5-6 PM Anyone interested in a Redo on Monday will complete their workout with a judge on the 3rd side gym @ Apex. It will be up to the athlete to complete their Redo along with all proper standards on their own. Please ask the class coach if you have any questions prior to the start of the group class, not during group class. Monday PM all redo's must take place between 5 and 6pm ONLY. 


What is the OPEN and How does it work?

More than 300,000 people from around the globe competed in the Open last year. As the largest CrossFit community event of the season, the Open ties together athletes from within the same gym to those in their broader city, country and world.

For five weeks, you—and the hundreds of thousands of other people who signed up—are at the whim of the Director of the Games Dave Castro, taking on workouts that may push you to learn a new skill, improve the skills you already have or go into a darker place than you’ve ever been before.

The Open welcomes anyone 14 to 100 years old. (We’ll take any centenarians, too.) All you need to do is sign up, and enter a score each week. You can complete the workouts at a participating CrossFit affiliate in front of a judge, or film your performance from anywhere you want and submit a link as proof.

To make the Open even more accessible, we introduced a scaled option in 2015. Each time a workout is released, athletes will be given two versions: Rx’d and Scaled. The Scaled-workout option is designed to be accessible to the majority of people who attend CrossFit affiliates. If you do CrossFit, there’s a very high chance you can do the Open, too.

Workouts are released each week on Thursday at 5 p.m. PT, and athletes have four days or 96 hours to complete the workout and submit their score. Scores are due before 5 p.m. PT that Monday.

The fittest athletes will advance to the next stage of the season.
